The walk up Rivington Pike is most commonly started from the Rivington Barn, off rivington lane. Car park, postcode, BL67SB.
Length: 2.62 miles 4.22 km
Ascent: +206m -210m
There are many options for this walk and a good ramble around all the various paths is highly recommended.
From the car park head towards the barn and take the path on your right and cross the Breres meadow on a well maintained path and head upwards a few hundred yards towards the wooded hillside of the terraced gardens.
From here we followed the sign for Rivington terraced gardens and headed in a southerly direction, after a few minutes of gentle climbing you will come up to a stone built archway / tunnel, go through this and you will come upon the Japanese lake.
Take the right hand path around the lake and head up the path at the back of the lake and you will shortly come to the kitchen gardens.
From the kitchen gardens take the right hand path and after a couple of hundred yards you will reach the junction of Belmont Rd, turn left and keep going until you find the little cafe, take the right hand path facing the cafe and head on all the way to the summit of Rivington Pike and the Rivington Tower, the climb is steep but short so is well worth the few minutes of effort as you will be greeted with stunning views right across Lancashire and the rest of winter hill.
After taking in the views and a pork pie and a brew we headed back down the path we ascended on and continued along Belmont rd all the way to Pigeon tower. Take the path around the back of the tower and keep left down to the Italian lake and on to Levers bridge,( from here we climbed back up to look at the old bungalow grounds but you don’t need to)
From levers bridge continue to the left (southerly) after 200 yds take the right hand path down and follow all the way back to the barn and your starting point.
