The start of this walk is from the village of Brinscall near Chorley.
There is roadside parking on Lodge Bank, Brinscall, Chorley PR6 8QU
Head to the end of the road with Brinscall lake on your left and take the path on your left, through the gate and over the bridge crossing the Goit canal. Head up the gentle climb through Brinscall woods before coming to a crossroad, take the left hand path and follow until you arrive at a bend with a waterfall on your left, you will see a track heading up on your right hand side, head on up here along the forest path and keep left at the next obvious fork. Keep gently climbing keeping the moors on your left, it is a well trodden track so you should have no problem navigating here, eventually you should arrive at a clearing with a stile on your left heading up to the moors and leaving the woods behind for now.
The walk up the moors is on well defined paths and was fairly dry on the day we did it, I will say the wind was quite strong and you are very exposed so appropriate clothing is definitely required here. Keep heading up and soon you will join a road / wider path that takes you onwards to the summit of Great Hill, the views are stunning right across Lancashire and over to Winter hill, Rivington pike and Darwen tower.
Head on down from the summit on the path towards Winter hill in the distance, after a short while you will come to a broken stile, head over and take the immediate path to you right, and follow the track steadily down, take the stile on your left down towards the trees and stream, there are some lovely spots down here for a spot of lunch away from the exposed winds of the moors. Head on down the valley until you reach the beautiful path around White Coppice, it is well worth taking your time on this section as it is full of photo opportunities. There is only really one fork in the path, when you arrive at it take the right hand path and continue all the way to the bottom. At the bottom don’t cross over but take the gravel path on your right heading back towards the woods, follow this back into Brinscall woods and climb the path back up until you reach a fork, head to your left and all the way back to the bridge at the start of the walk.
