The weather was stunning For early February, so ruck sack on and loads of enthusiasm I set off on what I knew was going to be a full day of hiking.
Head down the main road in the general direction of Glenridding for a few hundred metres before crossing the road and heading down the signed path next to Side Farm, go through the farm yard, turn right past the cottages and you will see a sign for a bridalway through a gate and onto the path to the pikes. Follow on up the path to Boredale Hause where the track splits between Place fell and the Angletarn Pikes, take the track on your right and continue the steady climb to the pikes. The views are amazing, a great spot to take some photos looking across to Helvellyn. As you round the Pikes you will be greeted with the stunning view down to Angle Tarn, one of the most stunning scenes in the whole Lake District, The banks are definitely a good spot for lunch and a bit of reflection.
Leaving the Tarn behind follow the track steadily up until you see a fork, the lower path takes you on to the knott, ignore this and take the path up to Rest Dodd on your left, its a steeper climb than it originally looks but is well worth it as the summit offers superb views over to high raise. From here you have to take the long path all the way back to the bottom path you can see in the distance which eventually leads you up and around to the summit of The Knott.
The climb up The Knott is rocky to start with but soon becomes a wide fine gravel track that you follow up and around the back before taking the grassy path to the summit cairn. The views are simply stunning giving you a full panoramic over the Eastern fells and the sight of the cloud hanging to the top of High Street made me wonder if they were still actually there such was the illusion.
I did the walk as an out and back instead of a circular walk over High Street, so the return is just a case of retracing your steps however this time follow the lower path back instead of going back over Rest Dodd.
